CHOIR POLICIES
-
Choristers are required to participate at a minimum in two services and one regular practice per month in order to retain their choir membership. In order to participate in the special song, choristers are required to attend two practices and one rehearsal (mini-practice before the service). (Jan 2010)
-
Choristers are required to notify their absence for periods more than four Sundays through email or telephone. Choristers who are absent for four Sundays without appropriate notification will be contacted either in person or through telephone to ascertain the situation. Continued absence and failure to notify will lead to cessation of choir membership.
-
Returning Choir members after extended periods of absence are required to attend the prescribed choir practices before participating in services and wearing choir uniform/robes. (missed 4 consecutive Sundays = 1 practice, missed more than 4 consecutive Sundays = 2 practices)
-
Musicians who play for the concert must come for at least one full concert practice and or one rehearsal. Interludes played at practices will be retained for the final performance.
-
The use of cell phones and pagers in the choir loft during worship services is prohibited and choristers are required to switch them off. Should they need to be kept on for emergent and valid reasons, the devices must be on the vibrate mode. Unnecessary talking during services in the choir loft is prohibited.
-
Choristers, who miss the required practices, are encouraged to join the choir for the worship services but will refrain from participating in the special song. Choristers can either sit down or step aside from the loft during the song.
-
Choristers arriving later than 3:25 p.m. cannot join the choir.
-
Choristers are required to be on time for practice and rehearsal sessions. Designated Praise and Worship team members are required to attend the rehearsal in order to lead the sessions.
-
During practice sessions, Choristers should keep their cell phones on vibrate mode.
-
When corrections are made to a particular SATB group during practice sessions, other choristers are required to be silent and respectful of, and listen to, corrections in other sections.
-
Choristers, who wish to leave early from the practice, are expected to inform the choir leadership before the start of the practice or during the session in the event that it is necessary for them to leave.
-
The Choir will sing congregational songs based on generally accepted conventions and formats. If there are deviations, such changes would be announced to the congregation before the start of the song.
-
As a general principle, all choir-related inter-personal conflicts are requested to be treated as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis and as necessary with congregation members. Choristers are required to follow the below mentioned process in order to resolve any conflicts within the choir:
(i) meet with the individual concerned; (ii) meet with the Conflict Resolution Peer Resource Team if necessary; (iii) meet with Choir leadership or the Pastor as necessary and (iv) meet with the Church Administration Committee.
- Revised on January 2010
